Chili Cookoff

Our Chili Cookoff takes place in November!

Do you think your Chili is the best in town?
Can you bring the heat with your salsa?
Its time to gather your team and enter our Tapatio Chili Cookoff!



Chili Cookoff

All teams can consist of 2 to 4 people - at least 1 person must be a Tapatio Member
Entry Fee is $40 per team. - Includes 2 drink tickets
Each Team needs a Team Name 
Each Team is responsible for providing their own cooking equipment 
Each Team must provide their own ingredients - No Commercial mixes are allowed
Teams may begin setup of their equipment and preperation of food at 8:00 AM
Cooking will begin at 9:00 AM
Chili must be ready to serve to judges and for public sampling at 12:00 PM
Each team is responsible for leaving its area clean at the end of the day
Be prepared to make at least 1 gallon of chili so you will have plenty for the judges and also for the tastings
Tapatio will supply Tasting cups and spoons
No Ingredient may be pre-cooked in any way - exceptions are canned or bottled tomatoes, tomato sauce, peppers, pepper sauce, beverages, broth and grinding or mixing spices


Texas Red (No Beans)
this is defined as any kind of meat or combination of meats cooked with chili peppers, pre-cooked or canned tomatoes and various spices. Ingredients such as beans, rice or pasta are forbidden

Exotic (Anything Goes)
This may consist of ANY meat, chili peppers, pre-cooked or canned tomatoes, various spices, and other ingredients, such as any variety of beans

Judging will vote based on the following:
Taste, Aroma, Look, Consistency, Aftertaste


Homemade Salsa Contest

Participants in the Salsa Contest do not have to be contestants in the Chili Cookoff
Entry Fee is $5 per pint of salsa entered for Judging
Each contestent may enter (1) entry in each category
Each entry can be prepared fresh in advance
Each entry should consist of one pint for judging and 2 pints for tasting
The pint must be delivered to the judges table no later than 11:00 AM
Chips will be provided for judging
No foods that require refrigeration allowed. This is for health and safety reasons
All entries MUST include the recipe
